Darwin Families Society
Being a postgraduate college, a significant part of our students arrive with their families. Darwin Families Society aims to bring together students and families to form a joint community where all are welcomed, as well as promote family issues within the College and the University. If you've got any questions, or want to be involved with this society, please get in touch with Janna Hastings, the head of the Families Society, via dcsa_families [at] darwin.cam.ac.uk .
The Cambridge University Graduate Union (GU) holds a number of events especially for student families. There are events for parents with preschool children. Every week, on Friday from 10:00AM, the University Centre on Granta Place hosts the Graduate Union Parent and Toddler Coffee Morning. The Coffee Morning is a chance to meet up with other parents and, from 10:30, the GU Groupworker leads activities for the children too.
For school-age children, the GU runs Saturday Screening at the GU in 17 Mill Lane every fortnight at 4:00PM during the academic year. During the summer vacation, the GU holds Fun in the Sun, a morning of games for all ages that culminates with a celebration picnic. Look out, too, for special family days at the GU, like the 2015 Dinosaur Day supported by the Cambridge Museums, and events for students' spouses and partners. For more information, see the Graduate Union Facebook Page or www.gradunion.cam.ac.uk. For more information contact Simon Graham, Families Officer (email@example.com)
